Olivier Latry, Titular Organist of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris interprets Charles-Marie Widor's symphonies nos. 5 and 6 for organ. Duration 67 mins
Organ music written by the French composer Widor (1844-1937) was intended for the symphonic Cavaillé-Coll organs found in the principal churches of Paris. Certain movements in his symphonies, namely the renowned Toccata which ends Symphony no. 5 opus 42, as well as the Allegro which opens Symphony no. 6, demand exceptional virtuosity.
